At our 2022 annual gala, Drew Manning, fitness expert and best-selling author of Fit2Fat2Fit, shared how intentionally gaining 75 pounds completely changed his perspective on fitness and helped him gain empathy for overweight clients.
“Instead of asking, ‘What’s wrong with you? What’s wrong with this person? Why can’t they do this? Why can’t they do that?’ The better question is to ask, ‘What happened to you?'” he said. “My hope is to get trainers, coaches, people in this industry asking that question so that people don’t feel like there is something wrong with them, like they are broken. . . . I feel like if we all had more empathy, this world will be a much, much better place.”
