In celebration of Mother’s Day, Walmart stores across Utah united to support some of the state’s most vulnerable families. This year, dozens of locations participated in a statewide donation effort, delivering essential supplies and generous funding to two critical nonprofit organizations: The Road Home and Peace House.
Walmart’s outreach included the donation of Mother and Children Move-In bags to support 85 families residing at the newly opened Family Interim Non-Congregate Housing Facility (FINCH), the state’s first emergency shelter to offer private rooms for families. Each store contributed essential items—towels, blankets, soap, dishes, silverware, diaper rash cream, shampoo, conditioner, and washcloths—to help families settle into their temporary homes with dignity and comfort.

Meanwhile, the Park City Walmart store presented a $2,000 grant to Peace House, an organization devoted to ending domestic violence and empowering survivors. The grant will go directly toward Peace House’s prevention education program.
“These generous grant funds from the Park City Walmart will be providing support for our prevention education program,” said Kendra Wyckoff, executive director of Peace House. “That program specifically provides healthy relationship, child abuse prevention curriculum, and bystander intervention curriculum to folks in our community, including children in schools. So, this is a really impactful opportunity to have some funding to help get our message into the community and have the opportunity to prevent violence before it even starts.”

Wyckoff emphasized the emotional impact of the support, especially during Mother’s Day.
“It’s really incredible to have the community support, especially this week as we’re coming up to Mother’s Day,” she said. “At Peace House, we can have up to 50 or 60 individuals staying on our campus. That includes often 18 to 20 mothers or women who are having to celebrate Mother’s Day in a secure facility because their homes aren’t safe. So, this is really a wonderful and generous gift messaging to those in our community that they’re cared about, they’re valued, and that our community wants to support survivors.”
The connection between Peace House and Walmart is more than just philanthropic—it’s personal. Some Park City Walmart associates have directly benefited from Peace House services. To show their appreciation, the team even baked a custom cake for Peace House staff.
“Walmart is proud to support the Peace House because strong communities start with safe and empowered individuals,” said Colin Sachs, assistant manager of the Park City Walmart. “We have some associates here who have been through the Peace House, and we think it’s a really great program. Especially with Mother’s Day coming up, we felt that it was a great time to donate.”
As a favorite destination for Mother’s Day gifts, Walmart has turned its attention this year to honoring moms who may not be able to shop for themselves. Through meaningful donations and heartfelt community partnerships, Walmart has shown that every mom—no matter her circumstance—deserves to feel supported and celebrated.
